Nicotine Pouch Strength Guide: What the mg Means
3 min read · Updated
What the mg number on a tin means, how our four strengths work, and how to pick the right one.
Every tin on TinsXpress shows a number like 6mg, 15mg or 50mg. That number is the most useful thing on the lid, and it’s the easiest one to get wrong. This guide explains what it means, how our four strengths work, and how to pick one.
What the mg number means
The mg figure is the amount of nicotine in each pouch, in milligrams. A 12mg pouch has twice the nicotine of a 6mg pouch, and a 24mg pouch has four times as much. The higher the number, the stronger the pouch.
Some tins print strength per gram (mg/g) instead of per pouch, especially European brands. The two numbers aren’t the same, so compare like with like. Our product pages list the strength for each tin, and the strength meter under the price shows where it sits on our scale.
Our four strengths
To keep things simple, every tin on the site sits in one of four strengths. You’ll see them as the four-bar meter on each product, and as filters in the shop.
| Strength | Nicotine per pouch | Brands we carry | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Light | up to 6mg | Mr. Vapor, Rogue, Z Pouches | Shop light → |
| Regular | 7–12mg | ALP, Ace X, Lucy, Mr Fog, Rogue, Velo, Z Pouches | Shop regular → |
| Strong | 13–20mg | Pablo, Rogue, Velo, White Fox, Zolt | Shop strong → |
| Extra strong | 21mg+ | Iceberg, Pablo, Siberia, White Fox, Z Pouches | Shop extra strong → |
- Light, up to 6mg: the lowest strength we carry. Most people new to pouches start here.
- Regular, 7–12mg: one step up, and the widest mix of brands and formats.
- Strong, 13–20mg: for people who already use pouches regularly.
- Extra strong, 21mg and up: our strongest tins, up to 50mg. For experienced users only.
How to pick a strength
- New to pouches? Start at Light or Regular. It’s easy to step up later; it’s not much fun to start too high.
- Already use a pouch? Match the mg you know, then use the shop’s Strength filter to see every brand at that level.
- Not sure? Go one step lower. A mixed 5-tin order (10% off) is a cheap way to try two strengths side by side.
Other things that change how strong a pouch feels
Two tins with the same mg can feel different. Three things make the difference:
- Moisture. Moist pouches release flavour and nicotine faster and feel softer. Dry pouches, like Mr Fog, feel firmer and build more gradually. ALP’s core range is moist, and its Drifters line is drier.
- Pouch size. Slim pouches, like White Fox, sit flatter under the lip. Larger pouches carry more material.
- Flavour. Icy flavours (anything called Ice, Freeze or Chill) add a sharp cooling that can make a pouch feel stronger than its number.
Same flavour, different strengths
A few brands let you keep a flavour you like and change the strength:
- Rogue: the range now includes 6mg, 9mg, 12mg and 15mg. Check each product for flavour and strength availability.
- Z Pouches: Wintergreen, Peppermint, Blue Razz and Strawnana each come in 6mg, 12mg and 21mg.
- Velo: from 10mg up to 20mg, mostly mint.
- ALP: the core range at 9mg, and the Drifters collection at 12mg.
